RIAC Match: Benedicte de Gelder with Arunima Kumar Dance Company

Arunima Kumar Dance Company CIC originally approached RIAC looking for a trustee to provide expertise and support as they take exciting new steps within their new charity . “I was introduced to RIAC by Andrew Hurst MBE and that introduction proved truly transformational for our organisation.” said Arunima Kumar BEM , Founder & Artistic Director of Arunima Kumar Dance Company CIC.
Arunima originally practiced as a dancer, teacher and choreographer in India before setting up AKDC in London. Now, AKDC are a leading arts organisation & the largest institution of the dance form in UK with several awards including the One Dance UK award for Youth Champion. Most recently, they formed a charity – Arts & Kuchipudi Dance Charity. They aim to preserve South Asian dance, primarily Kuchipudi, and support developing young artists, in particular those from marginalised backgrounds. Their outreach has been immense, with 3,000 performances across 50 countries in only 10 years. We are delighted to have been involved in pairing this amazing charity with the new trustee Benedicte de Gelder.

Benedicte is currently Partnerships Director at Climate TRACE. She turned to RIAC in hope of using her breadth of experience to help make a local impact.  She told RIAC, “I’m delighted to be joining the Arunima Kumar Dance Company as a Trustee. I’m inspired by AKDC’s commitment to combining artistic excellence with community engagement and social impact. Drawing on my experience in start-ups, partnerships, and operations across technology and sustainability, I look forward to supporting the company’s growth and helping it build a lasting positive impact. I’m grateful to RIAC for facilitating this meaningful connection and supporting me in this exciting first trustee role.”

“Through RIAC, we were matched with outstanding leaders from a wide range of backgrounds,” explained Arunima, “and when we met Benedicte, we immediately knew she was the right person for our charity. Benedicte joined us at a pivotal moment in AKDC’s transition as a charity. She has been instrumental in strengthening our Board of Trustees, streamlining our financial systems, and embedding robust governance across the organisation. She is now playing a vital role in shaping and enabling our future global partnerships , inclusive outreach projects , corporate alliances and advocacy for South Asian dance forms, especially Kuchipudi. Benedicte combines deep expertise with exceptional energy and a genuine commitment to support – qualities that make her an invaluable part of our next chapter. We are super grateful to RIAC and to Bene.”

We look forward to seeing the results of this amazing match.
